It was time out for the Pauanui Menz Shed last night.  Menz Shed members with their partners all gathered at Billy Point for their annual BBQ.  Thanks Menz Shed for all the work you do.

Sausage Making by the old boys.

Last years sausage making morning at Menzshed was so popular we had to do it again this year.  Under the watchful eye of a local retired butcher (young Jim who refused to get his hands in the mix but couldn’t help himself from doing so), 25 Sheddies all had a go at cutting, mincing, combining, seasoning and ultimately forming sausages just as they are ought to be, though there were quite a few that resembled other objects.  Wives and partners were invited to view the operations and learnt a great deal from what was happening.  Others toiling on the barbecue supplied a very tasty sausage luncheon for all attending.  Certificates were presented for the various ‘categories’ and Sam won the most industrious award.

We’re on the move.  From small beginnings in 2013, which doesn’t seem that long ago, to now, just a stones throw away.  Equipment is now in our new premises and at the time of going to print we are in the throes or sorting tools, building benches, fitting security and as you will see, installing a roller door, just to name a few.

As well as this move we are well advanced on a huge fundraising project involving the whole community, the RNZAF, all our Sheddies and sponsors alike.  Selling 5,000 tickets @ $20 each of which $5 returns to the selling organisation, Schools, Info Centres, Sporting groups & the like.  A parachutist drops on to our local airstrip, & if he lands on your spot on the grid there’s $50,000 first prize.  Many other prizes will be won on the day - a huge event with huge rewards.

Incorporated in 2013 with a membership of 12 Sheddies, we have grown in 5 years to over 40 at the last count. During that time Sheddies have come from all walks of life and have helped us outgrow our original premises - tripping over each other and using machinery just doesn’t mix.  Timber stored outside, gifts of equipment, unusable due to lack of space.

An opportunity to move to the Annexe of the Pauanui Sports & Recreation Club suited our Committee just fine & although some jobs in the community are on hold until we sort our gear out, the move gives us a great workshop to develop over the next few years.

Menz Shed get together

A great way to finish Summer with a get together and BBQ at the South End with partners of these great guys from the Menz Shed.  These guys make things happen in Pauanui.

A Big THANKYOU to all those who supported the MENZSHED PRODUCT SALE on the Saturday of Labour Weekend.  We were able to boost our funds by $2000 which will be used to further enhance our activities for the local community.  There's many projects underway right now and these will be completed shortly.

Do you have a clear, easy to find Street Number on your property? These number plaques are proving very popular and can be ordered from any of the Real Estate Offices or direct from Menzshed members.  There's a $5 donation made to St Johns or First Response (your choice) included in the $20 purchase price.  This is our way to help them find you more easily in the event of an emergency.
