Bowling Club Updates Outdoor Bowls CONGATULATION BOYS A triples team playing under the Pauanui Club - consisting of John McConnell, Grant Moran and Gerrard Slattery (Waitoa) went to Dargarville to play in the Bradley Memorial Triples over the weekend of the 30-31 March. Grant has been playing this tornament since 1990, (having only missed 3 years) and coming runner up in 2009, but finally managing to win this year. He has taken Peter Erni, Bruce Fox, John McConnell and Ron Lamont. Unfortunately Ron wasn't available this year - his loss. They played 5 games to qualify with 4 wins and 1 draw. Sudden death from there on but they managed to hang on for the final. A total of 48 teams entered with 1 from Australia. 20 years ago 120 teams were entering the tournament -sign of the times. In the final they played last years winners, the lead of that team has 49 NZ titles, the two is a rep NZ junior with numerous titles and know nothing about the skip. Pauanui now holds the title. To cap of an enjoyable weekend had by the team John managed to win the "Pig in a Barrow" raffle that they hold every year. Left the barrow and pigs head there so that we could get it in the boot of the car. 28th Oct 2011 A great 2 days bowls tournament with over 100 bowlers. Well done to the winners. It was also nice to see Ron Lamont have a visit on the two day event. Congratulations to the 3 top winning teams. |
Indoor Bowls

The Pauanui Indoors bowls Club have opened their season on March 29th 2012. We meet every Thursday afternoon in the PSRC Recreation Hall, all equipment is supplied, just wear comfortable clothing. no experience needed as members will show you how it is done. We bowl between 1.30 pm and 4 pm but like names to be in 10 minutes before we start as we make up the teams on the day. so come along and have a fun on a winters afternoon, very friendly group and afternoon tea is served. Club Days- Thursdays 1:30pm - 4:00pm Recreation Hall

Outdoor Bowls
Pauanui Bowls A field of 20 triples teams - 11 from visiting clubs and 9 Pauanui teams played on Thursday 22 in an open tournament sponsored by Ultimate Motor Group, Ford and Madza dealers, Thames. Conditions were fine with the greens in excellent order. There were 3 unbeaten teams so the prize winners were decided on differential points as follows: 1st – Pauanui - Ron Lamont, Derek Davis and Terry Templeman - 4 wins + 27 2nd – Pauanui - Myra Ward, Ron Jeffries and Fay Henderson - 4 wins + 16 3rd - Tairua Inc. - Kerry Crossman, Kevin and Judy Wilson - 4 wins + 15
The afternoon prize was won by Irene Ong, Margaret Campbell and Fay Mathie, Tairua Inc.
Earlier in the week a Pauanui team - Anne Jeffries, Maureen Brown and Pat Templeman were placed 2nd in a field of 23 teams at Tairua Inc. and Bruce Fox, Jeff Schofer and Neville Hill were 2nd at Tairua Country Clubs tournament.
