Pauanui Volunteers Night 5 December 2016
The Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club hosted the Volunteer Awards on Monday 5 December. 120 people attended a most enjoyable evening where most groups in the community were represented.
Mayor Sandra Goudie and Councillors Jan Bartley and Terry Walker attended and made comment that this was a great community event and congratulated Pauanui on the support it receives from volunteers to make such a vibrant place to live in.
There were two categories for the overall awards. One from the Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club for their User and Sub Club groups and the other category was the Community Awards which was supported by Experience Pauanui. The eventual winners were decided from the nominations received. These were all people that had given hours of voluntary work to their particular group or organisation.
The overall winner from the Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club was Warren Haycock nominated by the Menz Shed. This was a very popular nomination as the Menz Shed have contributed a huge amount to the community. Under Warren’s guidance one of his projects has been the team leader for the design, construction and installation of the numerous seats and picnic tables that have been installed on the Pauanui Trail.
The Community Award which was sponsored by Experience Pauanui was awarded to Ingrid Zonderop. Ingrid has been an integral part in promoting Pauanui. She has put in many voluntary hours with events around the community such as the Pauanui Launch and Wine Trail, Music Picnic at the Point, New Years Eve Fireworks Display and March Weekend series.
A special award was made to Ken Philp for his continual and voluntary work each week at the Pauanui Club.
Congratulations were extended to Gary Fowler who this year received a Queen Service Medal in the Queens Birthday Honours List. Gary was acknowledged for his commitment and voluntary service to the community and agriculture.
Bev Douglas who hosted the event thanked all those in attendance for their voluntary contributions. A quote for the night was Volunteers are the lifeblood of so many organisations. Generous with their time and talent, they bring light and life to many groups and organisations. As a volunteer you give Time and Time is the most previous resource in our lives.
