Another very enjoyable afternoon was held on Monday June 25 with a midyear theme.Committee member Sonia explained some of the more unusual traditions of Christmas around the world. Other members then explained traditions in places they had lived. Everyone then participated in a test of 9 different spices. It was interesting to see how a number of spices do not taste very nice until they are added to food.
The Flavour of the Month competition was won by a Christmas pudding with Brandy Butter
A sumptuous afternoon tea was enjoyed with a delicious Christmas cake made by Adele.
The May meeting of the Pauanui Garden Club featured a “Touch of Home”.
Carla from Armoire (previously known as Trove)showed a very captive audience some of the many lovely products
available in her shop. The most popular item appeared to be the “euro SCRUBBY”. After recommendations from two of the members
they were all purchased. Carla did assure us she had more available.
Monthly competitions were once again well supported with some lovely blooms and fruit entries.
Next meeting is June 25 in the Southern Lounge of the Pauanui Club.

Garden Club (with a touch of home)
Our 1st get together of the year, started with our traditional picnic meeting. A short shower of rain did not deter the 39 Ladies (including 4 new members) all arrived with a packed lunch/chair and a glass for bubbles to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. The programme for the year was outlined and we look forward to another exciting year.
Our Garden Club now meet on the 4th Monday of the month, as opposed to the last Monday. New members very welcome.

Christmas decorations to reflect the season.

The highlight of the afternoon was seeing the reaction of Ngaire Carr when she was awarded a life membership of the Garden Club.
Ngaire has contributed to the club for many years. Congratulations Ngaire well deserved.
Afterwards everyone enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea and delicious Christmas cake.
Next meeting will be held in February.
Every year in October the Pauanui Garden Club have a “Big Day Out”. The destination is a well-kept secret and this year was no different. The bus left Pauanui at 8.30 with the first stop being a leisurely morning tea at Woodturners Café, (near the Hauraki Golf Club). Next the Woodlands Café, Restaurant and Bar at Gordonton, where all agreed the lunch was delightful. We were able to explore the beautiful gardens there, as the weather was perfect. Before returning home it was a quick visit to the Wairere Nursery where a number of purchases were made. Each member received a “goodie bag” which included a packet of seeds generously sponsored by Kings Seeds. However, they did have to earn them by answering some trivia questions.
A very enjoyable day was had by everyone.....where will we go next year??

At our May meeting we were lucky to have Mary Hull as our guest speaker. Mary (from Waiuku) is President of the Franklin branch of the Fuchsia Society and also vice President of the NZ Fuchsia Society.
The large audience were enthralled with the way Mary pruned the plants she had brought with her. Mary assured us the plants would flourish in the spring even though they
appeared to have had a severe “haircut”. Many of the ladies purchased plants so Pauanui should have some lovely Fuchsias blooming come summer.
