Pauanui Volunteers Night 27 November 2017
The Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club hosted the Volunteer Awards on Monday 27 November. 120 people attended a fantastic night where volunteers were celebrated for their contribution to the community and the clubs that they were involved with. Mayor Sandra Goudie, MP Scott Simpson and Councillor Terry Walker attended along with Bob Renton Community Board Chairman and Sarah Campbell from the Community Board. Sandra Goudie made comment that this was a great community event and congratulated Pauanui on the support it receives from volunteers to make such a vibrant place to live in. Scott Simpson congratulated the community for the amount of voluntary work that is done to enhance Pauanui. He was delighted to be able to attend this event and to acknowledge all the volunteers and the community.
There were two categories for the overall awards. One from the Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club for their User and Sub Club groups and the other category was the Community Awards which was supported by Experience Pauanui. The eventual winners were decided from the nominations received. These were all people that had given hours of voluntary work to their particular group or organisation. The overall winner from the Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club was John Shaw from the Pauanui Bridge Club. Not only has John been an active member of the Bridge Club but he has contributed his time to many other groups in Pauanui. John is one of the first to put his hand up to help out with any of the groups he is associated with. Two other finalists John McConnell for his contribution to Bowls and also Keith Hardy for the incredible amount of time he has given to the Menz Shed. The Community Award which was sponsored by Experience Pauanui was awarded to Andy Bolton. Andy is the Project Manager for the Hikuai District Trust – Pauanui/Tairua Trail. His commitment to the Trail is exceptional and he has spent untold hours working through all the issues for the Stage 3 of the Trail. Two other finalists in this category were Frank Coulter and Gordon Coster who have spent many years eradicating graffiti in the early hours of the day during the holiday period. The other finalist was Garry Reynolds from the Pauanui Voluntary Fire Service for his commitment to the town as being part of the Operational Support for the Brigade which he manages all the administrative support.
A special award was made to Bill Singer for his continual and voluntary work each week at the Pauanui Club where he takes on the responsibility of driving the Courtesy Van for patrons. They do not donate for the popularity. They do not want anything in return. They are the best people and those in attendance are all part of that group.

A question was raised at the recent AGM about installing Paymark system to speed up the service at the Bar. I have done some inquiries regarding this and the fee is $15.53/month per terminal, this would equate to a cost of just under $560 per annum - this will be considered. There is another option that members may not be aware of, members can deposit money to their membership number at any time. When they swipe their card they can advise charge account, process is also quick. The Bar staff strive to offer an efficient friendly service and if we can make this more efficient we will look at procedures in doing that. If you have any questions please call either Gary (Club Manager) or Michelle (Office Manager) on 07 864 8695.
Rubbish:
Dumping of garden waste or any other rubbish is strictly prohibited on the Pines and Lakes Golf Courses. For special requests please contact either the Club Manager or the Green keepers.
Whangamata Ocean Sports Club Receiprocal Rights Agreement:
We are pleased to advise that a reciprocal agreement has been signed with the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club.
This allows members of both Clubs to enjoy the same membership rights and is effective from 17th November 2016.
When visiting the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club please show your Pauanui Club membership card at the bar to enjoy their facilities.
